Who we are
Tortuga Bladeworks started as a way to build the knives I wanted to carry-simple, tough, and honest. What began as a personal pursuit grew into a small shop serving people who value tools that work as hard as they do.
Every knife is forged or stock reduced, ground, heat treated, finished, and sharpened by hand. No production runs. No outsourcing. Each blade is built one at a time, with the expectation that it will be carried, used, and relied on.
I build tools-not showpieces- and I stand behind every one that leaves the shop.
Philosophy
I believe a knife should earn its place.
That means simple geometry, honest materials, and heat treatment done for performance-not just numbers on a chart. I design blades to cut well, hold an edge, and stay comfortable in the hand through real work, not just quick tests or photo shoots.
If a design doesn’t work in the field, it doesn’t belong here.
Process
Each Tortuga blade goes through the full process in-house:
Forged or stock-reduced depending on design
Precisely heat treated and tempered for durability
Ground and hand-finished
Sharpened to a working edge before it’s ever called done
No two knives are identical. Variations are part of the process—and part of the character.
Availability and Expectations
Tortuga Bladeworks operates in small batches.
Available knives are released periodically and listed in the shop or announced through social channels. Custom commissions are limited and accepted selectively, depending on current workload.
I don’t rush builds, and I don’t overbook. Quality and sanity come first—for both the maker and the customer.
If you are looking for a knife built to be used hard and carried without ceremony, you’re in the right place.
If you’re looking for something flashy, delicate, or disposable—this probably isn’t it.
Thanks for stopping by.
